A Different Approach
If traditional method books have not worked for you, it might be time to try something new.
From the very first lesson I present each student with a keyboard chart that shows how to find each note on the keyboard, instantly. The chart is phased out completely within the first year, making sure that even the youngest students are absolutely solid in reading both the bass and treble clef.
I teach piano and keyboard to people of all ages. Beginning adults and teens really need to learn the same basic skills as young children.
Note to parents: When I start your child below age seven, I teach you along with your child to make sure your child understands everything and can always receive help at home from you in between your weekly lesson.
Performance is always voluntary. Since not all students desire to perform in front of people or audiences, no one is ever pushed to do so. All students are prepared to perform in any situation if that is their goal: at school, in talent contests, in front of family, etc.
I hold a Music Performance Degree (Piano) from FSU. I've written my own piano method based on over 40 years of teaching experience. This is done using Finale software. Each composition, song, or exercise is printed out during your lesson, customizing each lesson to your individual needs.
